MARSHMALLOW SELECT® is a unique powder supplement that helps support gastrointestinal and digestive comfort, structure and function. It contains two high quality ingredients: organic marshmallow root and flavonoid-rich deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) extract.

Both marshmallow and licorice contain soothing polysaccharide hydrocolloids. These mucilaginous compounds are characterized by the slick, slippery consistency they develop when combined with water. Taken alone on an empty stomach, they can help coat, soothe and protect irritated mucous membranes throughout the entire length of the digestive tract.

Marshmallow Root Powder is the primary ingredient in Marshmallow Select®. Marshmallow has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine. Recognized for its moistening, cooling properties, marshmallow offers soothing benefits to irritated tissues both inside and outside the body. Few, if any, human studies on marshmallow exist but in vitro research suggests that marshmallow polysaccharides provide anti-inflammatory and immune supportive activity. When taken internally, marshmallow can provide direct relief to irritated throat and gastrointestinal tissues and also help protect the GI lining to support healthy gut barrier comfort and function.

Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) extract has been researched for providing numerous benefits to digestive and gastrointestinal health. Whole licorice root has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine to help regulate healthy GI function and provide adrenal support, but it also contains glycyrrhizin, a compound which can increase blood pressure. This compound has been removed from our premium DGL extract which contains very low levels of glycyrrhizic acid (<1%). A meaningful dose of 150 mg DGL extract is provided in each 1 tablespoon serving of Marshmallow Select®.

Studies suggest DGL extracts may offer significant benefits to overall digestive comfort in patients suffering from symptoms such as early satiety, abdominal pain and fullness, appetite loss and excess gas and bloating, as well as heartburn and regurgitation. It also has been shown to reduce or eradicate the Helicobacter pylori bacteria associated with gastric ulcers, and to promote healthy gut motility.
